Following the Skate Ontario Sectional Series Events, SCBC is proud to congratulate our three ice dance teams who qualified for the 2024 Skate Canada Pre-Novice and Novice Challenge which was held February 1st – 4th in Oakville, Ontario:
- Kayleigh Chao & Jonathan Ma – Pre-Novice Dance
- Cate Goode & Shubham Panchal – Pre-Novice Dance
- Madison Tong & Gabriel Liu – Novice Dance
Cate and Shubham are in their first season as a team and have been checking off goals all season long. They were ranked 12th after the pattern dances and were able to climb up a spot to finish 11th overall after the free dance. Congratulations!
Kayleigh and Jonathan have been having an outstanding season so far and were in the hunt for a spot on the podium. Following the pattern dances they sat in a very close 5th place. With a strong performance in the free dance they were able to move up two spots to claim the bronze medal overall ranking them 3rd in Canada! We could not be more proud of this accomplishment and cannot wait to continue to watch their journey in this sport. Congratulations!
This is the highest level of competition domestically for Pre-Novice teams. We congratulate Kayleigh and Jonathan and Cate and Shubham on an outstanding season!
Unfortunately due to injury Madison and Gabriel had to withdraw from the competition, however they are back to training as they prepare for the Canadian Novice National Skating Championships being held later this month in Waterloo, Ontario. SCBC wishes them the best of luck!
