SCBC is morning the loss of Judy McArthur who was a long-time coach of over 50 years at the former Brampton and Chinguacousy Figure Skating Clubs.
Judy passed away peacefully at home on May 26, 2020 at the age of 84. Loving mother of Donna McArthur (Doug) and Ian McArthur. Cherished grandmother to Devon (Mike), Lee (Amanda), Emma (Mark) and Conor. Great grandmother to Harvey and Adelaide.
Judy grew up on the ice. She was a triple gold figure skater and one of the youngest professional Canadian skaters at the age of 14. Judy took great joy in coaching and sharing her love of the sport for over 50 years at the Brampton and the Chinguacousy Figure Skating Clubs.
Judy had a passion for the Canadian Electoral System. She served the community of Brampton delivering over 30 elections federally and provincially. One of her greatest accomplishments was her United Nations appointment to aid in the East Timorese independence referendum in 1999.
Judy lived her life with compassion, resiliency and determination. She showed her first symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis at the age of 26; despite the challenges she raised her two children and put her skates on every day to share her love of the sport.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Arthritis Society of Canada would be greatly appreciated by the family.
